I learnt to swim when I was at Primary School and soon realised that swimming was a passion of mine. I furthered my swimming skills by joining Barbarian Swimmers. At Barbarians I worked my way through the scheme of awards and was offered the opportunity to become a Student Teacher at the age of 13 years old. I became a Student Teacher in March 2000. I taught in the water assisting the non swimmers completing their 5, 10 and 20m awards. After a six month period I passed my Barbarian Student Award and the Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA) Students Certificate. Here onwards I was teaching on the poolside and started to train for my Swimming Teachers Certificate (Beginners) and Swimming Teachers Certificate (Full). In November 2008, I gained my STA Tutors status. I have held a seat on the committee for many years and currently have the position of Club Chairman.
As well as enjoying swimming I also have a passion for lifesaving. I joined Hastings and St Leonards Voluntary Lifeguard Club when I was 18 years old to further my lifesaving knowledge. I have achieved awards such as Bronze Medallion, Bronze and Silver Cross, Life Support 3, National Beach Lifeguard Qualification, Lifesaving Competition Judge, Life Support Trainer Assessor and Lifesaving Trainer Assessor. As well as training with the Club I have also held a committee position and have covered open water events, such as, rowing regattas, sea swims and channel swim training – great fun!!
I began working as a lifeguard at my local holiday camp, when I was 16 years old. Once the season ended I moved to my local leisure centre. Over a six year period I have held, full time positions as a receptionist, Senior Leisure Assistant, Duty Manager and on several occasions Acted Centre Manager. During all my time at the leisure centre I have continually taught within the centres and with other private swimming organisations to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience. One of my biggest achievements was launching and creating a new swim school with the help and support of my colleagues of the Centre that I worked in.As you have read I have a pure passion for the swimming and lifesaving and that is why I decided to create LAC Training. Everyone deserves the right to be safe in and around water. Please take the time to browse the website and if you have question or enquires then please contact us!
